Soak in synth, frolic and nostalgia with Sunflower Tape Machine’s new track

Sounds like the ’80s

Chennai-born and bred Aryaman Singh aka Sunflower Tape Machine brings to the table a reverie of fresh sounds with his latest release, Internet friends, that is reminiscent of the fun and frolic of the 1980s. “The 1980s was an iconic decade in music and honestly, was way ahead of its time. Many new, experimental sounds were on the airwaves. The idea behind Internet friends is anchored around that fresh sound,” explains Singh.

The new single captures the nostalgic sound of many classic ’80s bands, but in its own distinct style. “In my previous releases like Sophomore sweetheart, I used the typical ’80s plug-ins for the mood. Here, I kept the elements of the decade without using those plug-ins, and have retained the essence of that nostalgic sound,” he elaborates. “Like many people, I’m not a fan of my own voice. I started singing only with Sophomore sweetheart, or a year before that. I used to produce the song in a way where my sound seemed slightly different than my original voice. But with this single, what you hear is my own voice; I am satisfied with how it has turned out,” he explains.

There is a sense of decadent indulgence in this track while the repetitiveness of the lyrics nudges us to enjoy the vibe. “Internet friends started out with a bassline and organically built itself, element by element. The most enjoyable element is the saxophone in the end. On a whim, I got on Fiverr, discovered some sax players and sent them the demo, asking them to add high-energy saxophones for the outre. It took the song to a new level,” says Singh.

The accompanying music video enriches the experience. “I am fortunate to have a passionate label like Export Quality Records who look to promote my original work.” Singh is set to play at NH7 Weekender soon, and is excited to see where this journey takes him.
