Kumbhalgarh: Where the Past and Present Merge
According to local belief, the original Kumbhalgarh Fort was constructed by King Samprati and dates back to the Maurya Age of the 6th century. But owing to inadequate records, there's not much clarity about the fort from its origins till 1303 that marks its capture by Alauddin Khilji.

But a holy man told him that a good-hearted person who chooses to sacrifice his life for the fort will end all the difficulties. Since no one was willing to make this sacrifice, the hermit beheaded himself. Soon the fort could be erected without any obstacles. Its entrance marks the point where the hermit's head dropped. The King named it the Hanuman Pol.
