Mr. Vivek Newar, Founder of Dyet Life Care LLP

This event led to the establishment of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that aim to tackle an array of global challenges, encompassing issues such as poverty, inequality, climate change, peace, justice, and, environmental deterioration.

With an unwavering dedication to innovation and a deep commitment to fulfilling the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Vivek Newar, an entrepreneurial visionary, researcher, and corporate anthropologist, emerged as a trailblazer in driving sustainable solutions and making a positive societal footprint. Vivek's journey is marked by his unique ability to bridge the gap between business success and responsible practices.

Vivek Newar stands at the helm of Dyet Life Care LLP as its Founder. In an exclusive Q&A session, Vivek highlights how the fusion of innovation with sustainability is not only essential for addressing pressing global challenges but also creates a long-term value for businesses and society as a whole.

1. As an entrepreneur spanning diverse domains, how do you ensure innovation aligns with sustainability?

Ensuring that innovation aligns with sustainability has been a central focus of my entrepreneurial journey. At Dyet Nutrition, we ensure that every innovation we pursue is viewed through the lens of its potential impact on the environment, society, and economy. This involves fostering a mindset that values responsible practices as much as profit. Whether it's in marketing, operations, quality, sales, or management, we ensure that our innovation adheres to sustainable principles.

2. Has your IIM Shillong education influenced your innovative business approach?

My education at IIM Shillong has deeply influenced my innovative business approach. As an alumnus of the institution, I've been privileged to experience its strong emphasis on ethics and sustainability, which has profoundly shaped my commitment to responsible business practices. Overall, my IIM Shillong education continues to be a cornerstone in propelling my entrepreneurial vision forward.

3. Can you tell us about any specific initiatives or activities that your company has undertaken to actively contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

At Dyet Life Care LLP, integrating sustainability into our core business practices is a foundational principle. We meticulously select ethically sourced, natural ingredients for our nutraceuticals, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Our seed paper initiative is an example of our commitment to sustainability. We provide consumers with plantable paper that contains seeds of various plants. Instead of discarding the paper, consumers can plant it in soil, and it will germinate into beautiful plants that contribute to local biodiversity. This aligns seamlessly with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 15 (Life on Land) and Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). By fostering biodiversity, reducing waste, and promoting responsible consumption, we're actively contributing to a greener future while offering consumers a way to participate in our sustainability journey.

Apart from this, recently, our company proudly took on the role of a sponsor for the Guwahati Half Marathon, an event organized by IIT Guwahati. This marathon, which stands as the largest student-led marathon in the nation, aligned seamlessly with our values. By supporting their noble cause of 'Run for Zero Hunger' (SDG 2), we actively contributed to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals.

5. Could you share some insights into your company's efforts to minimize packaging waste and reduce its overall environmental footprint?

Reducing our environmental footprint is a paramount concern. We've implemented several strategies to minimize packaging waste. Our packaging materials are consciously chosen for their recyclability and biodegradability. We've adopted streamlined packaging designs that minimize excess materials without compromising product safety. Through these concerted efforts, we're actively working to reduce our environmental impact while maintaining the quality of our products.

6. Could you share more about your association with The Global Academy, United Kingdom, and how the collaboration with researchers and academics aligns with Dyet Life Care LLP’s contribution to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

The Global Academy's collaboration with researchers and academics resonates with Dyet Life Care LLP’s commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. By partnering with The Global Academy, we're fostering a knowledge exchange that supports innovation aligned with SDGs. This collaboration enables us to enhance our products' positive impact on health and well-being, while also contributing to broader societal goals such as good health and well-being (SDG 3) and partnerships for the goals (SDG 17). This intersection of research, education, and sustainability underscores our holistic approach to business and societal advancement. By uniting with The Global Academy, we're not only advancing the nutraceutical industry but also championing a collective effort to achieve the SDGs.

7. Why startups should work towards CSR activities and consider aligning with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?

Startups that embrace SDGs become catalysts for change and establish a favorable brand identity. They play a pivotal role in shaping a brighter future for all, safeguarding our collective well-being. Working towards CSR activities will help a startup in multiple ways such as -

  • Enhanced Reputation: Participation in CSR activities and alignment with SDGs allows startups to cultivate a favorable brand image, attracting socially conscious consumers, investors, and partners.
  • Competitive Advantage: Demonstrating a dedication to social and environmental impact sets startups apart within a competitive market, drawing the attention of investors, partners, and customers who prioritize purpose-oriented businesses.
  • Sustained Viability: By addressing social and environmental challenges through CSR initiatives, startups not only contribute to a more sustainable business model but also align with global development priorities, fostering enduring sustainability and expansion.

As a pioneering entrepreneur, Vivek Newar's dedication to sustainability and the SDGs exemplifies a business model that resonates with responsible practices and innovation. His journey from IIM Shillong to the helm of Dyet Life Care LLP and his plans for his future endeavour demonstrates the powerful impact of uniting business success with social and environmental responsibility.
