Multiple metastatic brain tumors can be challenging conditions to treat and manage, but recent research has shown that CyberKnife therapy is a highly effective treatment option.

Metastatic brain tumors are formed when cancer cells from other organs such as the lungs, breast, colon, soft tissue cancer, etc spread to the brain. Radiation and surgery are the mainstays of metastatic brain tumor treatment, as chemotherapy drugs have limited ability to penetrate the brain.
Earlier, the prognosis of metastasis of the brain would be less than six months but with effective treatment, nearly 85 -90% of the brain tumor can be treated and controlled. Hence the prognosis of such patients improves greatly so does their quality of life. Targeted radiation through Cyberknife involves imaging, planning and radiation delivery which can happen in single or multiple sessions as per requirement.
Based on his experience and expertise in CyberKnife treatment, Dr Sridhar Papaiah Susheela, a renowned Radiation Oncologist of India asserts that CyberKnife therapy is very effective in managing multiple metastatic brain tumors.
Dr. Sridhar PS has been using CyberKnife therapy for several years, and states, "CyberKnife therapy has revolutionized the treatment of multiple metastatic brain tumors. As it is non-invasive in approach, radiation is delivered to the tumors with pinpoint accuracy and damage to the healthy brain tissue is prevented."
CyberKnife radiation therapy uses a specialized robotic arm to deliver recommended doses of radiation to tumors with extreme accuracy. CyberKnife therapy comprises a high-energy X-ray machine fitted on a robotic arm through which the oncologist can send radiation beams to destroy tumor cells and stop tumor growth without damaging the healthy tissue. Through Cyberknife, the oncologist can direct the robotic arm to track the tumor and deliver the radiation precisely.
Cyberknife therapy is recommended for patients who are surgically unfit or have complex tumors and/or very small tumors. Moreover, the movement of the tumors makes the delivery of radiation complicated. Hence, the Cyberknife procedure allows the radiation to reach areas which were deemed impossible to reach through human hands or other radiation therapies too, without incisions or sedation. Robotic mobility ensures precise delivery of radiation in all possible directions.
Elaborating on the advantages of the Cyberknife procedure, Dr Sridhar P S states that the entire radiation treatment can be completed in one to five outpatient settings, and there is little or no recovery time. The patient can resume normal activities soon after. Also, radiation can be delivered to previously treated areas, if required.
