Deepak Pandit, the White Singham of Mumbai customs’ cinematic life turns into a book

Deepak Pandit

WHITE - The Man Beyond The Uniform, is a biography on the life of Assistant Commissioner of Mumbai customs and GST, Deepak Pandit. The book is an initiative by authors Sheetal Bhan, a TedEx Speaker and writer, along with Aamir Bengali, an upcoming Hindi Film Industry screenwriter, the biography. The book will revolve around the multi faceted life of the White Singham, a term coined by Aamir. Sheetal also happens to be the niece of Deepak Pandit and thereby, she has been a close witness of his journey so far.

“I have observed Deepak sir’s journey very closely. From his days as the assistant commissioner of customs in the marine preventive until date, where he serves in the GST department, I have seen how he has maintained his virtues strongly and kept his character spotless. On the other hand, I have seen him protect his family so dearly”, said Aamir.

On asking Sheetal, Deepak Pandit’s niece, about her emotion behind the book, she expressed, “Arushi Mami (Mrs. Pandit) will forever be the most important mother figure in my life along with being one of my earliest spiritual mentors. After we lost her in 2020, I was devastated. We couldn't even grieve together as a family. I realised I needed to hold onto her in some way. And writing Dippy Mama's biographical memoir gave me the space to remember, retell and immortalise the incredible life of not just Arushi Mami and Dippy Mama but also their love story”. Aamir added further, “This book is being written with absolute honesty. The chapters have been divided between Sheetal and myself based on our individual experiences and perspectives.”

“Our journey while researching about Deepak Pandit’s life has brought out some facts and stories that gave goosebumps to us. The way people around him, spoke of him. Stories about his activities while on duty. His no non sense attitude at work. All of it together blew my mind”, said Aamir. When asked about a little glimpse of it, Sheetal said, “you will have to wait till the book is out”.

The book has been announced through a trailer which includes quotes in praise of Deepak Pandit by legendary Indian cricketers like Maninder

Singh, Chetan Sharma, Praveen Amre and one of the senior most officials of the CBIC (Retd), a department under the Ministry of Finance.

The writer’s have mentioned, without disclosing any names that they have begun to receive offers from the Hindi Film industry to buy the rights and make a biopic on Mr. Deepak Pandit. “No decision has been taken on the rights for a biopic.
