The Guide Loves

Okay, confession time. We’ve secretly fantasised being the unseen observer in our version of Alice’s tea party in Lewis Carroll’s classic. In our Wes Anderson-meets-Lemony Snicket-themed storyboard, imagination runs wild, and normal is boring. But when newspaper deadlines wring us back to reality, Books Etc raises its magic wand to ensure we remain remotely connected with our escapist fantasies of a biblio-wonderland. Apart from their literature e-store, the Delhi-based indie platform also hosts book discussions, poetry readings and launches, and has monthly curations of new releases across genres.

However, we were distracted by their stationery, decor and accessories merchandise. Iconic quotes by the big daddies of literature, from Shakespeare to Rumi are transferred to wall clocks (Rs 700 onwards), literary scrolls (Rs 550), cushion covers (Rs 350) and scarves (Rs 750). There’s a Mad Hatter-inspired tea party box set (Rs 950) that includes two coffee mugs (a tea set would’ve been cooler, no?) and four coasters with iconic phrases from the fantasy novel which could make for a fun giveaway. We plumbed for the Sherlock Holmes literary scroll where wise words from the Bond Street sleuth give us practical gyaan to start our day. Time to have a literary boss inspire you, or better still, have yourself temporarily teleported to your own tea party.
