Advocate Suren Shetty, who is representing the trustee, told mid-day, "The grounds of argument included that he was innocent, as he voluntarily returned from abroad and joined the investigation without any summons. Had he committed any crime, being a foreign national, he would have stayed back.
"The doors of the offices in the school have glass panes; so, how was the incident not seen by anyone else? Also, the dates mentioned in the complaint was the period when repairs were being carried out in the school. The trustee didn't have any separate space for himself; how would he have managed to get a classroom? (Based on these points) the court granted bail to my client on a surety of Rs 1 lakh."
The teacher's counsel, advocate Bhanudas Jagtap, told mid-day, "She was granted bail on a surety of Rs 25,000." The trustee was arrested on November 7, six months after the police filed an FIR against him based on a complaint by the girl's parents. The MIDC police had also booked the 31-year-old class teacher of the school, who had been named as the trustee's accomplice in the complaint, and arrested her on November 21.
