Trainee crew members of Air India Express haven’t got necessary Airport Entry Passes, given only after receiving valid company IDs
It appears that Air India Express — a low cost subsidiary for Air India — has taken security of airport areas casually, as trainee crewmembers have been given a temporary pass. Sources say they haven’t been issued valid company passes, and so haven’t got Airport Entry Passes, as these are given only after they get valid company IDs.

Temporary identity card issued to one crewmember
According to sources, 49 of the trainee cabin crew who have started operating for the airline, are still flying with their temporary passes and haven’t been issued a permanent airline identity card or their work contracts. These crewmembers have been trained in Mumbai and have been operating from Calicut.
While their training has been completed and they have begun work, a spokesperson said Permanent Company Identity Cards are issued to cabin crew after successful completion of their training and issuance of fixed term contracts. According to sources, they finished their training in September and were allowed to operate on flights.
“Though they have temporary cards valid till October 2015, they have signatures either from the Human Resource department or the administration of the airline instead of the security department,” said a senior official. “There are around 49 such crew members who haven’t even been given the contract but are flying for the airline.”
The airline that operates two daily flights to Mumbai, has one of its major training centres in Mumbai, where freshers and experienced crewmembers attend regular training sessions. An airline official also said that some of the 49 crewmembers did not have their Airport Entry Pass (AEP), which is a must needed document to enter the airport premises.
Official speak
An Air India Express spokesperson said, “The cabin crew training has broadly two parts, ground training and in-flight training. Permanent Company Identity Cards are issued to cabin crew after successful completion of their training and issuance of fixed term contracts. All of them have their AEPs. Fixed term contracts are issued on successful completion of training.”
