Manipur violence: Meitei's activist gives 24 hour ultimatum to Government
17 November,2024 03:22 PM
Manipur is once again engulfed in tension after the discovery of three bodies in Imphal, sparking outrage across the state. While initial reports suggested the recovery of six bodies, it remains unclear if they are linked to missing persons. The killings have intensified public unrest, with human rights activists issuing a 24-hour ultimatum to the government, demanding strong action against militant groups. Athouba, a spokesperson for the activists, warned of severe consequences if the government fails to address their demands. The Coordination Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI) has called for immediate military intervention against militants and the repeal of the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act (AFSPA). In response to growing frustration, protesters on November 17 targeted the residences of state ministers and MLAs, escalating the crisis. The situation remains volatile as the state grapples with escalating violence and calls for justice and accountability.
