India-Canada Row: 'The Australia Today' lashes out at Canada

Amid the ongoing India-Canada Row, Canada made another ‘provocative’ move. Canada blocked Australia’s Prominent diaspora outlet hours after coverage of EAM Jaishankar's presser in Canberra. Now, the Managing Editor of ‘The Australia Today’ issued a press statement condemning Canada’s action. The press statement said that the publication would continue to advocate for open media. During the press conference, Jaishankar condemned Canada’s actions, mentioning “unsupported allegations” against India. For a year now India-Canada diplomatic ties have been ‘sailing in rough waters’ over growing tensions driven by several key issues. Following Canada’s action of blocking ‘The Australia Today’, MEA criticised Canada’s free speech “hypocrisy”. India highlighted Canada’s inconsistency on freedom of speech, especially when dealing with issues critical of its stance toward India. In a recent act of violence against Hindus & Indian diaspora in Canada, a mob of Khalistanis vandalized Brampton’s Hindu Sabha Temple on Nov 03. India condemned vandalism at Brampton’s Hindu Sabha Temple and called on Canada to ensure justice.
