V Narayanan takes over as ISRO Chairman, Set to lead India's space vision

Dr. V. Narayanan, a well-known Indian rocket propulsion expert and aerospace engineer, has been appointed as the next chairman of the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). He has a strong background in cryogenic propulsion systems and is recognized for his significant contributions to India’s space missions. Dr. Narayanan will replace the current ISRO Chairman, S. Somanath. The Department of Space made the official announcement on January 7, 2025. Dr. Narayanan will formally take over as ISRO’s chief on January 14, 2025. This leadership change comes at a crucial time as ISRO is focusing on developing satellite technology, advancing space exploration missions, and strengthening global partnerships. With Dr. Narayanan’s experience, ISRO aims to continue its progress in these important areas. Narayanan expressed his gratitude for the opportunity and acknowledged ISRO’s contributions to India's progress since 1969, under the leadership of pioneers like Sir Vikram Sarabhai, U.R. Rao, and others. He mentioned that with the talented team at ISRO, they aim to help make India a developed nation by its 100th year of independence. Narayanan highlighted upcoming projects like the SpaDex experiment for future missions, the G1 rocket, and the PSLV experiment. He promised to use his 41 years of experience to lead ISRO to new heights.
