Tucked in the bylanes of Bandra on Waterfield Road is a pretty Fruitisserie (think fruits and sweets). The powder pink Parisian patisserie-inspired decor is the perfect theme for delectable gourmet desserts and delicacies—all with fruit(s) as the main ingredient. Although the concept eatery is more of a takeaway establishment that has only two small tables, it’s ideal to stop by to click photos for the gram while your order is getting freshly made and packed.
The apple wrapples—though not a novel concept— look tempting with a sprinkle of cinnamon, pecans, M&Ms, walnuts, or Oreo dust and a drizzle of caramel. Surely, creating these would require a well-trained hand to execute them flawlessly. The first cheesecake wrapple (Rs 249) they cut open for us fell apart and so they made a fresh one for us instead. There’s no space for make-do here and we appreciated their attempt for perfection. The sweetness of the cheesecake went perfectly with the crisp and tart of apples—putting our tastebuds afire with contrasting flavours. On the crunch, firmness, texture, and taste front—this one won our heart for that not-so-sweet-not-so-sour bite. Can’t say the same for the chocolate wrapple (Rs 199) one, though; perhaps because the combination is somewhat predictable. Maybe they should experiment more with unusual flavours.
The lady at the counter was kind enough to share as tasters their chocoberry wrapple (Rs 49)—fresh strawberries dipped in dark chocolate and coated with choco chips. Now one can’t go wrong with that combination. We also packed the Medjool date pack of six (Rs 599) stuffed with chocolate almond, pistachio, nutella, Oreo and s’mores which we skipped, because the textures somewhat were a mismatch.
The avocado ice cream, avosnowy (Rs 69) for a tiny cup was an interesting flavour to try once; on a regular basis, we’d rather have the date ice cream, ice dates (Rs 75) which had the true date punch and sweetness to it. Other items like the banana wrapple and cherry wrapple were unavailable. There is freshly squeezed Valencia orange juice (Rs 99) to wash down all the guilt.
It’s interesting to know that the family business that backs the fruitesserie— IG International—has been in business of importing fruits for five decades. So the wrapple you are biting into is fruit from the thousand varieties that the world’s best orchards produce. All the more reason that we felt there is so much more they can do with keeping fruit as a main ingredient, experimenting with flavours and offering tarts and pies for variety perhaps. Something to think about.
