Chef Yajush Malik and his team at Gallops have rolled out a bhonu menu, which has traditional flavours with an innovative twist. Knowing how much Parsis love the hand-churned mango ice cream and boi (river mullet fish) from Udvada, he is specially bringing down the two items from the sleepy town, believed to be the location where the earliest Zoroastrians settled when they arrived from Iran to India, centuries ago. Besides the usual suspects, there’s also Pestonji’s chutney pattice, aflatoon
akuri, machhi na curry, dhan dar prawn patio, kolmi ni curry, patra na paneer and dudh na puff.

For Sinor, Navroze has always meant falooda. “Every year, I would eagerly wait for March 21 just so that we could have falooda and pulav dal for dinner with family at home. It was much later when I started doing small orders that I realised Iranis keep the haft-sin table.”

Go beyond bhonu

Parsi fare and the Ratan Tata Institute (RTI) have been synonymous for decades now. So, you can rest assured that their Navroze special lunch will be the real deal. We suggest you also save room for dessert as Chef Hooma Billimoria, head of cake and confectionery, has whipped up a mean spread, comprising Dutch almond nougat, pineapple fresh cream nougat, fresh fruit gateaux, baked yoghurt and ravo with dryfruits. “As children, my siblings and I would help mom and dad fix a lavish brunch consisting of sev and dahi, resembling longevity and sweetness, mava-ni-boi, sweet mava fish resembling prosperity, malai-nu-khaju and, of course, eggs, fruits, and Parsi chai followed by a trip to the fire temple for blessings.”
