Digital India, online banking, online menus and even online deliveries being the keyword for 2020, the group that struggled the most to cope with the new world order was the elderly! In light of this, Mahima Bhalotia started The Social Paathshala to digitally empower elderly citizens.
Bhalotia had identified the challenge elderly face When navigating around booking a cab, ordering groceries and sometimes grasping the working of their smartphone. Understanding that her students were all going to be 50+ she started by distributing pamphlets around her neighbourhood. Her first-ever student was a 67-year-old advocate who sounded very excited about Bhalotia’s idea. There was no looking back after that.
She has successfully taught more than 150 elders how to step into the digital world. She endeavours to make them feel confident that they can learn technology regardless of their age so that they can get a grip on technology, be digitally independent and not have to rely on anyone in future. Maximum of 25-30 participants are allowed in the sessions.
Recommended by: Surendra Kaushik, 69-year-old from Pune says, “Mahima’s online classes have been a boon, especially during COVID-19 times for my wife and me. We learnt how seniors can use Twitter for complaints and suggestions. She is ever smiling and patient to all the queries coming from seniors and I believe is the true USP of her classes.”
