In the times of 140 characters, short plays are a fitting rage. That’s why, House of Wow, a creative and performing arts space is set to stage Crumpled -- a compilation of five independent short stories. “Centered on the theme of imperfect love and written by four different writers, we put a set, enact a story, take the set off and put a different one and we start another story. It all happens before you snap out. In just 70 minutes, you get to see five different stories,” says Riddhi Gupta, owner of HOW.
“Although I’ve called them imperfect love stories, they are really nice simple stories. Like me, I’m sure many of us ponder on questions like -- What would I do if there was no Internet? Or could I change a decision that I took or do I really fit into the app-dating culture? Do people now really meet in high school, fall in love, get married and live happily ever after? These stories also question the same thing,” says director Aakash Prabhakar who has also written two of the five stories.
Speaking on the short format, he adds, “These days, people prefer reading twittertature -- micro tales, tweets, dribbles and drabbles instead of long form books. I bet people saw more short films this year than feature films. Why not do the same with plays? I wanted to make a short play that people could come watch, relate to, and go home with a smile.”
