Five music festivals you must attend

Amit Trivedi

In wine country
There will be wine, and what's left of the winter sun — why would you not go to the SulaFest? The line-up at the 11th edition of the music festival includes Amit Trivedi for Bollywood lovers, electronic-folk band Crystal Fighters, multiple award-winning pioneer of electro-swing, Parov-Stelar, and Indian band Bauchklang. There will also be enough to nibble on from the fest's global gourmet cuisine, shop around from their bazaars, savour a massage, get your future read and even bring home a tattoo. And, the best part, needless to say, will be that you get to sip wine all day.

WHAT TO WEAR: It will mostly be hot, so girls, just let your knees and décolletage breathe. Men, shorts are the order of the day. This could be the only time it's okay to wear a fedora, by the way.

WHEN: February 3-4
Where: Sula Vineyards, Nashik
PRICES: Rs 2,600 - Rs 4,300

John Mayall

In the mood for love
The Mahindra Blues Festival is often thought as one that belongs to the serious lovers of blues. But, you could be an amateur who goes this year to get seriously educated in the genre. There are great performances lined up. On the international front, OBE John Mayall, who has 50 years under his belt, is headlining, and so is the original Wolfman, who combines rhythm and blues, Walter Wolfman, and blues-rock guitar virtuoso, Coco Montaya. Our very own Blackstratblues will also be sharing stage space with these legends. Head over with your dates; this could be start of a beautiful love story.

WHAT TO WEAR: Classy and cool is the mantra for an evening of blues. Ladies, how about taking the ethnic route for a change, and men, a white shirt and denims never go wrong.

WHEN: February 10-11
WHERE: Mehboob Studios, Bandra West
PRICES: Rs 1,200 - Rs 4,000

Desert raga
Head to Rajasthan for the special art and music festival, Ragasthan. Known as Asia's first desert camping festival, this is rooted in the expansive dunes of the Thar desert in Jaisalmer. There will be eclectic music, over 50 artists across three stages, one artists' village, a sociable camping space, a dozen film screenings under the open sky, bars and restaurants, art installations, morning yoga sessions and football on the sand. Do we see you booking tickets already?

WHAT TO WEAR: Summery clothes for the day, and warm gear for the night. Yes, you will have to pack a lot!

WHEN: February 23-25

The dance lords of Pune
Yes, we know that VH1 Supersonic is not in Goa anymore, but Pune is easier to head to, right? This one is for those who want to shout alongside some heavy-duty dance music leaders. There is Major Lazer (who gave us the club anthem Lean On), and Marshmello for the electronica lovers, Sean Paul for the pop lovers, ALT J for the more discerning listener, and Incubus for the old school 90s kids. Leading the Indian line-up is Nucleya, Lost Stories and Curtain Blue.

WHAT TO WEAR: Even if it's not going to be as beachy as Goa, girls can slip into your those teeny shorts, crop tops and strappy dresses. Men, stick with shorts, pastel shirts and t-shirts. Load up on crazy accessories and those neon, reflective sunglasses.

WHEN: February 9-11
WHERE: Laxmi Lawns, 133, Magarpatta City, Hadapsar, Pune

Canadian musician Tiga is headlining, and so is Horse Meat Disco. Along with all the music, there is yoga, art, local food counters and of course, the sunny sands that stretch ahead of you.

WHAT TO WEAR: Bikinis, sarongs and swimming gear!

WHEN: January 26-28
