Olympics Gender Controversy: Italy PM Meloni calls the match unfair

Amid the ongoing discussions on the Olympics gender controversy, Italian PM Meloni expressed her anger over the issue. Italian PM Georgie Meloni waded in on the debate calling the match unfair. She further stated that ‘athletes who have, male genetic characteristics shouldn’t be allowed to compete in women`s competitions’. Angela Carini quit her 66 kg women’s category boxing match against Algeria’s Imane Khelif sparking gender row at the Paris Olympics. The Italian boxer quit the match within 46 seconds into the match handing Imane Khelif a win in the opening round. Notably, Imane Khelif who’s a biological male was banned from competing in world championships following failures in testosterone and gender eligibility tests. The match sparked a gender row drawing adverse reactions from fans all around the world questioning the gender of Khelif. Post Backlash, IOC responded to controversy over Algerian Boxer Khelif stating ‘Every person has right to practise sport’.
