For as long as one can remember-from the time of Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, to the time of John cent and Jinder Mahal-WWE's most coveted fixture, the Royal Rumble, has been a male-dominated event. However, on January 28 2018, WWE will be creating history once again as it hosts its first-ever all women's Royal Rumble-a feat that will see 30 divas from Raw and SmackDown take part in 20 feet by 20 feet ring-to battle it out as the winner of this maiden event.
Speaking with Midday ahead of this milestone, ex-diva and current Chief Brand officer of the WWE, Stephanie McMahon, is elated and proud that this day has finally arrived. "It is the fans that have made this possible," she said. "They are a part of our show and tell us what they like, don't like, and most importantly, what they don't care about. In terms of women's revolution within WWE, there have been a number of triggers. In 2015, there was a hashtag that was started that trended for three days straight (#giveusachance). These women made their voices heard loud and clear and my father, Vince McMahon, replied asking them to keep a close watch as the chance would soon be provided. Now, for the first time, women are going to be called Superstars-just like the men-and will be competing in their first-ever Royal Rumble match." At the same time, Steph also gives credit to her husband and WWE Legend Triple H, who also visited India recently for his match against Jinder Mahal, for creating this historical moment. "He started training them (women wrestlers) and giving them the opportunity to tell their stories in the ring."
When asked what advice would she give to all the women participants ahead of their first-ever Royal Rumble, she said: "These women should be the ones to give me advice; they are the ones who have made this movement happen and I am in awe of their character, courage, and perseverance. In terms of being a performer, I would ask them to soak it in and enjoy every minute. Don't take it lightly. You are a part of history in the making."
For WWE aficionados and die-hard fans, you'll are well aware that every Royal Rumble comes with its fair share of twists and turns. Rumours of two ex-WWE superstars making a comeback this time have been doing the rounds as well. When asked whether she was going to be one of them, Stephanie laughs and says: "I cannot give away that secret; you will simply have to stay tuned."
