A young and spirited Team India won a record seven gold medals on the penultimate day of the 2021 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Kielce, Poland 
on Thursday. Gitika, Naorem Babyrojisana Chanu, Poonam, Vinka,  Arundhati Choudhary, Sanamacha Chanu and Alfiya Pathan put up dominating performances to clinch top honours.


Gitika gave Team India the perfect start by beating local favourite Natalia Kuczewska of Poland 5-0 in the women’s 48kg category final.

Chanu was equally good during her final in the women’s 51kg category. The Asian Youth Champion from Manipur looked in great touch as she secured a gold with a comfortable 5-0 win against European Junior Champion Russia’s Valeriia Linkova.

In the women’s 57kg final, Poonam also hit aggressive mode from the word go and dominated her experienced opponent Sthelyne Grosy from France with precise punches. Poonam, who also hails from Haryana, notched up a thrashing 5-0 triumph. Vinka (60kg) then defeated Zhuldyz Shayakhmetova of Kazakhstan when the referee stopped the contest in the third round.

Thereafter, Arundhati won the 69kg final, beating Poland’s Barbara Marcinkowska 5-0 and Sanamacha clinched gold in the 75kg, beating Kazakhstan’s Dana 
Diday 5-0. Finally, Alfiya beat Moldova’s Daria Kozorez 5-0 in the 8 1kg summit clash.
