Over 300 senior tennis players between the age of 35 and 75 from Europe, America, Canada, Japan, UAE and India will be seen in action at the inaugural Jayant Roy Memorial S400 ITF tournament at Mumbai’s MSLTA ( Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association) courts, beginning from Saturday.
The tournament has been initiated by the Jayant Roy Foundation in memory Jayant Roy, a sports enthusiast and son of Dr Himanshu Roy and Dr Sharika Roy from Patna— who died in a road accident in 2019 at the age of 23. “This is just a medium to get the world back on their feet in some way. God has given us a chance to do it. It’s not about tennis, it’s about getting back up when you are down. That’s the reason our Foundation is doing this. This international tennis tournament is dedicated to our dear Jayant,” late Jayant’s maternal uncle Dr Rohit Kumar Singh told mid-day.
The event will witness the participation of some prominent Indian players like Jagdish Tanwar, Nitin Kirtane, Mayur Vasant, Sanjai Kumar and Aditya Khanna among others.
