Venus Williams reversed her Wimbledon final loss to Garbine Muguruza to reach the semi-finals of the WTA Finals in Singapore. Williams needed more than three hours to defeat Jelena Ostapenko on Tuesday but at 37 showed no signs of fatigue in a 7-5 6-4 victory over Muguruza.

Williams' backhand was particularly effective as she recovered from breaks down in both sets to book her spot in the last four. This was a straight fight for the knock-out stages between the two and Muguruza's loss also ends her hopes of finishing the season ranked World No. 1. Williams is likely to face Caroline Wozniacki in the semi-finals.
