New Delhi: Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag has requested the government to name a special train and plane after gymnast Dipa Karmakar and athlete Lalita Babar in honour of their efforts at the Rio Games.

"Reqst to Hon’ble @narendramodi ji & @sureshprabhu ji 2consider d following in honour of #DipaKarmakar & #LalitaBabar," Sehwag wrote on Twitter yesterday.
Dipa finished fourth in the women’s Vault final, missing out on a historic medal by 0.15 pts. And Lalita became the first Indian in 36 years to qualify for an Olympic track final. She finished 10th in the steeplechase.

Sehwag wrote: "I request Hon’ble PM Modiji to consider naming a plane and train after these two athletes (even if it’s a special for a few days and without causing confusion) which in a way will encourage parents and inspire many youngsters to take up less popular sports as a career," the former start cricketer added.
