Roger Federer, chasing a ninth title at the Halle grass court event, despatched Russian Karen Khachanov 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) on Saturday to move into the final.
The World No. 5, building up to an assault on an eighth Wimbledon title, will now face German fourth seed Alexander Zverev who saw off France’s Richard Gasquet 4-6, 6-4, 6-3. Federer, 35, yet to drop a set in Halle, was playing his 13th consecutive semi-final.
Kvitova, Barty in title round
Petra Kvitova, the two-time Wimbledon champion who is making a courageous comeback from injury, will face unseeded giant-killer Ashleigh Barty in the final of the Birmingham grass court tournament. Kvitova secured a one-sided victory by 6-1, 1-0 retired over her friend and compatriot Lucia Safarova, while 21-year-old Barty brought down the sixth-seeded former French Open champion Garbine Muguruza 3-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Evans to miss Wimbledon
British number three Dan Evans is waiting to find out his punishment after testing positive for cocaine in April. Evans will now miss Wimbledon next month and could face a ban of up to four years.
