Ramnathan faces Seong-Chan Hong in opening Davis Cup match

Ram Kumar Ramnathan will take on Seong-Chan Hong, ranked more than 200 places below him, in the first singles match of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania group-I tie between India and South Korea starting here tomorrow

Chandigarh: Ram Kumar Ramnathan will take on Seong-Chan Hong, ranked more than 200 places below him, in the first singles match of the Davis Cup Asia-Oceania group-I tie between India and South Korea starting here tomorrow.


Haryana and Punjab Governor Kaptan Singh Solanki, who is also Chandigarh's Administrator, took out the draw at a ceremony held at the Haryana Raj Bhawan here today.


While in the first singles, India's Ramanathan (World No.217) will take on Hong (World No.427), in the second singles Saketh Myneni will square off against Yong-kyu Lim in the matches to be played on the opening day here tomorrow.


On July 16, in the doubles category, the Indian pair of Rohan Bopanna and Leander Paes will take on Hong Chung and Yunseong Chung. On July 17, in the reverse singles, Saketh will take on Hong while Ramanathan will face Lim.

Besides the players and captains of the two teams, All India Tennis Association (AITA) President Anil Khanna, was also present when the draw was held.

The tie will be played out at the grass courts of Chandigarh Club under the supervision of Haryana Tennis Association.

Last time Chandigarh hosted a Davis Cup tie was in 2012 when India played New Zealand.
