Pune: With the sun shining brightly in the blue sky filled with only white clouds, Saturday's races at Pune got off to a such a perfect start that everyone who had read about the weather bureau warning of thunderstorm and heavy showers wondered if they had got it all wrong. But as soon as the fourth race at 3.30 pm got over, the weather changed so dramatically that within minutes the sky turned dark, and heavy rains lashed the racetrack, accompanied by thunderstorm and occasional flashes of lightning, exactly as predicted by the weatherman.
The going got so slushy that after repeated inspection of the racetrack by officials and professionals, the race club was forced to abandon the last four races. The Idar Trophy, however, being the feature event, has been rescheduled at 12.45 pm on Sunday, half an hour before the first of the eight races of the Sunday card will be gone through.
For Sunday's feature, the Southern Command Gold Gold Trophy (Gr 3), I nominate Maximus, trained by Malesh Narredu and to be ridden by his nephew Suraj.
