Fred Couples' America side started slowly against Greg Norman's Internationals in the four-day Ryder Cup style event. Phil Mickelson and Anthony Kim got the home team off to a winning start against Canada's Mike Weir and South African Tim Clark two up, while World No 1 Tiger Woods and No 3 Steve Stricker missed just two fairways and two greens between them in their crushing six and four victory over Aussie World No 10 Geoff Ogilvy and Japanese teenager Ryo Ishikawa to give the USA a 2-0 lead.
