"Congratulations to the women's hockey team. The entire nation is proud of them," Modi tweeted.
The women's hockey team defeated Poland 3-1 in the final to emerge champions at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium on Sunday.
With this win, India qualified for the HWL Round 3. If they finish within the top six in Round 3, they would qualify for the Rio Olympic Games in 2016. Runners-up Poland also advanced to the HWL Round 3.
