Olympic medal dream still alive: Shooter Navnath Fartade

Navnath Fartade shot to fame totaling 596 out of 600 points to win gold at the ISSF World Jr Shooting Championships in Zagreb, Croatia in 2006.

Thereafter, he won bronze at the 2006 Doha Asiad and gold at the SAF Games in Sri Lanka among other international achievements. In 2012, he was appointed as district sports officer in Kolhapur, and has recently been transferred to the DSO Mumbai city, where he plans to get back to shooting.

"I was very busy with work at the DSO in Kolhapur and unable to concentrate on my shooting. But now that I’ve chosen Mumbai as my base, I plan to get back to regular shooting. I have begun training at Swatantraveer Savarkar Shooting Range in Dadar. I aim to participate in the nationals in December," Fartade (28) told mid-day here yesterday.

At 20, Fartade had dreamt of an Olympic medal. So, is that dream still alive? "Definitely, but it’s part of a long-term plan because my current focus is on my job. Only once I settle in here, can I shoot regularly. My ultimate ambition is a medal at the 2020 Games."
