World No 1 Djokovic, playing his first tournament since his shock third-round exit at Wimbledon earlier this month, lifted the Rogers Cup for a fourth time having previously triumphed in 2007, 2011 and 2012.
The Serbian, who has beaten World No 6 Nishikori in each of their last nine encounters, has won 11 titles and reached 14 finals in his last 15 ATP Masters 1000 appearances.
While never truly tested by Nishikori, Djokovic returned to something similar to his top form in Toronto before heading off for the Rio Olympics where he will launch his bid for a first gold medal to add to his CV.
