Rafael Nadal lines up against Australian Marinko Matosevic at the Monte Carlo Masters as the Spaniard begins his campaign for a record ninth straight trophy at the iconic venue today.
Nadal’s opponent Matosevic yesterday beat Fernando Verdasco 7-5, 6-3.u00a0Meanwhile, India’s Leander Paes and his Austrian partner Jurgen Melzer advanced to the second round of the Monte Carlo Masters here with a comfortable 6-3, 7-5 win over Benjamin Balleret and Guillaume Couillard.
Paes and Melzer will play Mahesh Bhupathi and Rohan Bopanna, who were given a bye in the opening round at the 2,646,495 euro clay court event.
