The Pacers said Copeland was stable after suffering wounds to his elbow and abdomen but did not give details of the incident that led to the injuries. "We are still gathering information and will update when we know more," Larry Bird, the team's President of Basketball Operations, said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with Chris and those injured." The New York Daily News reported that trouble broke out at the 1 OAK club shortly before 4:00 a.m. Shezoy Bleary, 22, was arrested after pulling out a knife and stabbing Copeland and his wife, the newspaper reported.

Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks, were also reportedly arrested for trying to prevent police from setting up a crime scene. They were charged with obstructing governmental administration.

Copeland, 31, was in New York because the Pacers are playing the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. The Hawks, meanwhile, beat the Suns on Tuesday night, and then the team flew to New York for a Wednesday night game against the Brooklyn Nets.
