Often dubbed as the original bad boy of tennis, John McEnroe used to relax between Wimbledon matches in his heyday by smoking marijuana, the tennis legend's pop-star friend Chrissie Hynde has claimed.

Hynde, the lead singer and guitarist of the rock band The Pretenders, told US radio station NPR: "Way back in the days when he was doing Wimbledon, he would always call me because he knew I had pot. He used to come around and hang out."

The news won't come as a surprise to fans of the tennis legend considering McEnroe himself publically admitted to using drugs during his marriage to former actress Tatum O'Neal.

In her memoirs, O'Neal even wrote that McEnroe 'kept drugs around for hospitality. . . like having a wine cellar'.
