After her third round Wimbledon win over Alison Riske on Saturday, Sharapova was asked if she knew Tendulkar, who was amongst the stars with former England footballer David Beckham watching her match from the Royal Box. She replied: “I don’t.”
Tendulkar is a regular at Wimbledon’s Royal Box. The record-breaking batsman, who received a dream farewell in his 200th Test last November, will lead the MCC XI versus the Rest of the World in Lord’s Bicentenary match on July 5.
Talking about Beckham
Sharapova was aware that Beckham was watching her match and she also spoke about getting inspired by stars from other sports.
“Yeah, I respect so many athletes in different sports. I think we can all really relate to each other’s profession, even though all the sports are quite different in terms of the training. But at the end of the day the commitments and sacrifices in terms of being an athlete are similar.

“I always feel like I really understand and actually get star struck more when I’m around athletes that have done incredible things in their career rather than maybe musicians or other professions,” she said in the post-match media conference.
“We’re not best buddies or anything, but it’s nice to be able to congratulate each other on achievements we’ve had.”
