Yash Modi, 13, made a winning debut in the junior boys singles as he ousted fancied Dhruv Das 3-2 to breeze into the junior boys singles quarter-finals in the JVPGC-All-Mumbai 4-star ranking table tennis tournament, hosted by Juhu Vile Parle Gymkhana recently.
Yash started with a bang and gave his rival no time to settle down to go one-up. But he erred in the second to let Dhruv fight back.
The fighter in Yash came to the fore in the third game as he hit hard on both flanks to lead 2-1.
The fourth game was saw both fighting tooth and nail before Das clinched it over extra points.
The decider, however, saw Yash keeping his nose ahead before he triumphed 11-3, 6-11, 11-5, 10-12, 11-9.
