Karishma Wadkar stole the show as Goregaon Sports Club won 2-0 over Khar Gymkhana in the second semi-final of the GMBA-Anant V Ullal Cup inter-club badminton at Matunga Gymkhana yesterday. The winners will face Bombay Gymkhana in the final today.
Wadkar first teamed up with Sanjana Santosh to register a comfortable 21-15, 21-5 victory over Khar Gymkhana duo of Riddhi Panjwani and Sarita Tejwani. After the break, Karishma came back to beat Karani Thakore 21-9, 21-7.

Meanwhile, nine-time national badminton champion Aparna Popat helped Bombay Gymkhana get the better of Naval Dockyard 2-0 in the first semi-final, late on Thursday night. In doubles, Aparna partnered Supriya Devgun to get past Anita Silval and Priyanka 21-2, 21-4. Later, Anokhi Haria defeated Anita Silval 21-3, 21-3.
“It’s been six years since I stopped playing competitive badminton. But I do play the sport over weekends. Our semi-final clash wasn’t as tough. But I am sure we will face some stiff challenge in the final,” Popat said.u00a0
