Udayachal High School's (Vikhroli) Sharvari Parulekar broke three records en route her gold medal-winning feats on the opening day of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised inter-school athletics championship at the University Sports Pavilion, Marine Lines yesterday.

Sharvari won gold in the 100m hurdles, long jump and 4x100m relay events where she competed in the girls' under-16 category. She clinched her first gold with a jump of 5.22m to surpass the current MSSA record of 5.05m. Nicole Franco of St Joseph Convent High School (Bandra) won silver, while Sharvari's schoolmate Pranjali Patil settled for bronze. In the 4x100 relay event, Sharvari, along with her teammates Pranjali, Disha Joshi and Poorva Sawant, won gold for Udayachal when they smashed the previous record of 53.5secs. They completed the race in 51.6 secs. Mary Immaculate Girls School (Borivli) and Bombay Scottish (Mahim) bagged silver and bronze
respectively.
In her final event of the day, Sharvari, 15, clinched gold in the 100m hurdles with a record timing of 15.2 secs. This event turned out to be all the more special for Udayachal as the silver (Pranjali in 15.4sec) and bronze (Poorva in 15.6sec) also belonged to them. All three athletes broke the previous record of 15.9secs. Sharvari credited her parents and coaches [Virendra Yadav, Farhad Patel and Dinesh Chandran] for her achievements yesterday. "They have put in a lot a of hard work," said Sharvari.
