Dipika Pallikal seems well prepared for her brief transition from the squash courts to the catwalk. The 22-year-old queen of squash, who recently won India's first ever gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games with doubles partner Joshna Chinappa, is all excited to make her debut on the fashion ramp.

Pallikal will walk the ramp for designer Arpita Mehta at the Lakme Fashion Week on Sunday. "There are no butterflies in the stomach as yet," she said during a chat with mid-day over the phone from Chennai.

"But surely, I will be nervous when the moment arrives. I always wanted to walk the ramp and I am glad to get an opportunity so early in my life. I am happier to debut with Arpita's collection.

Loving it...
"I have always loved her work. In fact, when I got engaged (with India cricketer Dinesh Karthik last year), I especially came down to Mumbai to pick up her clothes," Pallikal added.

The World No 10 said she likes looking good on the court. "I love to shop. I love to look good and presentable on court as well. If that helps the sport to become more popular then I am all for it.

"Basically, I want to be comfortable with what I am wearing. I love being fashionable," said Pallikal.

Pallikal said the CWG gold medal earlier this month has helped squash get the much-needed recognition.

Nothing less than gold
"A lot of things have changed. We were determined to win gold. We did not want to settle for a silver or bronze… we only wanted the gold.

"We are glad to achieve it. It was the biggest moment of my life which I will cherish for a very long time," Pallikal signed off.
