Hockey players should not be stopped from participating in league, say league organisers
Hockey India (HI) secretary Narinder Batra's warning that players who choose to play in the World Series Hockey league may not find a place in the national squad, has earned angry reactions from the league's organisers. Harish Thawani, executive chairman, Nimbus Sports said: "I'm not aware of his statement but if I find it is true, I am ready to fight him in court. No one can stop players from participating in any league unless it affects the nation's pride. We are willing to release players for national camps and international competitions whenever there is a question of India's representation."
The Indian Hockey Federation (IHF) has joined hands with Nimbus Sports to start the million-dollar prize money, hockey league in India. The league is scheduled to take place between November 2011u00a0 and February 2012.

India's star drag-flicker, Sandeep Singh denied receiving any instructions from HI against participating in the league. "We have not yet received any instructions from Hockey India stopping us from participating in the league. If we are capable, no one can stop us from playing for India."
On asked whether players from Pakistan will be playing in the league, R K Shetty, president of IHF said: "There was no issue when players from Pakistan played the World Cup and Commonwealth Games in India this year. We find no reason why these players should not be a part of the league unless there are any security concerns.
"This league will mean good practice for the players before the London Olympics. I also hope it gives new faces to Indian hockey," concluded Shetty.
