Centuries by Yashasvi Jaiswal and skipper Shreyas Mandlik helped defending champions Rizvi Springfield (Bandra) post 459 for four at stumps on Day One of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association-organised Harris Shield Elite Group semi-final against Balmohan Vidyamandir (Marathi), Dadar at the Bombay Gymkhana yesterday.

After winning the toss, Rizvi were in slight trouble when they lost opening batsman Shaikh Alsaad (12) to medium pacer Yash Sawant in the third over.

However, Shaikh's partner Abhinav Khuwaha (74) batted brilliantly before off-spinner Atharva Chavan sent him back.

Undoubtedly, the showstoppers of the day were the two centurions — Yashasvi and Shreyas.

Hansraj Morarji's Ayush Sharma

Yashasvi, who came into bat at No. 4, went berserk, scoring 132 in just 89 balls. In fact, 96 runs came in boundaries during his 80-minute stay at the crease. Yashasvi and Abhinav put on 165 runs for the third wicket.

Unbeaten 175-run stand
Shreyas in contrast, played a patient knock. His unbeaten 115 in 121 balls was only laced with eight boundaries. Shreyas also contributed in an important 175-run stand for the fourth wicket with Ayaz Khan (85 not out).

Ayaz slammed five fours during his innings.

For Balmohan, Atharva was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets in his 25-over spell.

Hansraj in command
Medium pacer Shadab Khan (3-27) and off-spinner Ibrahim Khan (3-18) wrecked havoc as Al-Barkaat MMI English School (Kurla) bowled out Hansraj Morarji Public School (Andheri) for just 129 in 45 overs on the opening day of their semi-final clash at the Parsee Gymkhana yesterday. Al-Barkaat bowlers created pressure on the opposition right from the word go. On the other hand, Hansraj Morarji witnessed a batting collapse. Furquan Charolia top-scored with 22 on a good batting track.

The low total didn't deter Hansraj Morarji's confidence. Al-Barkaat did not get the best of starts with the top order collapsing within no time. Off-spinner Ayush Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 20 in his 11-over spell. Medium pacer Furquan and left-arm spinner Aaryan Sen grabbed two wickets apiece. Towards the latter end of the day, the Al-Barkaat batsmen seemed to be in a major hurry to get to the target, gifting wickets to the opposition. At stumps, the Kurla team finished with 69-7 in 32 overs. Aasim Shaikh and Shadab Khan remained unbeaten on 13 and 11 respectively.
