Former Tata Sports Club football striker Kalappa C Gowder passed away at his residence in Chembur recently after suffering a heart attack.

He was 85. Gowder was among the top strikers of the Harwood League, one of Mumbai's most prominent football tournaments in the past. A roving centreforward in his heyday, Gowder scored plenty of goals for Tatas, and troubled most defences in the 60s.
He was known to have rarely wasted a ball and partnered with some of the game's top names in the city like Neville D'Souza, Papen Sr and Papen Jr.
