India began their Hockey World League campaign at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium here poorly as they went down 0-2 to World No 4 England.

The visitors took the lead in the England score in the 28th minute as their penalty corner specialist Adam Dixon pushed home for 1-0.

Dixon doubled the lead in the second half again off a penalty corner. England went 2-0 with 25 minutes of play remaining. India tried hard to fight back and even scored off a penalty corner. However, drag-flicker Rupinder Pal Singh’s goal was disallowed as the ball was not stopped appropriately before the drag-flick was taken.
Meanwhile, earlier in the day, World No 11 Argentina outclassed London Olympic silver medallists Netherlands 5-2 in Pool A, while in Pool B, Germany beat New Zealand 6-1 and World No 2 Australia edged past Belgium 3-2.
India take on NZ tomorrow, while Belgium face Argentina, Netherlands play Australia and England meet Germany.
