The Cricket Club of India (CCI) has done away with the proxy system of voting; marking a seismic change in the way the next committee would be voted in. The decision was taken at an Extraordinary General Meeting (EOGM) called at the club lawns last evening to take a vote on the decision.
Given the controversies the club has been riddled into since the past few months, club followers expected a stormy confrontation between the committee and members.
Instead, it was a tame affair with the proxy system being voted out. Henceforth, only members who are physically present during the time of voting can exercise their franchise during the club elections.
The proxy system had caused much heartburn over the last couple of years, with several members alleging that people who signed 'proxy forms' did not even know whom they were voting for when they did.
