American tennis star Serena Williams has hailed father Richard for playing a  significant role in sister Venus and her life.

The 23-time Grand Slam champion said if not for her father’s vision, they would not have achieved so much professionally and personally.

Williams told GQ’s Wesley Lowery that her dad has been way ahead of his times. “My dad was and still is way before his time. You see, when someone is different—when they don’t act or look how a person assumed they would—the first reaction is often fear. They think, How do we break them? My dad anticipated that, but he would not allow himself or his family to be broken,” remarked Williams.

The interest in the relationship between the father and his famous daughters has come into limelight with King Richard, a biographical film based on him, set to release in November.
