Herning (Denmark): Denmark's Caroline Wozniacki beat World No.1 Serena Williams in straight sets 6-3, 6-4 at the Energi Danmark Champions Battle 2015 exhibition match.

It is Wozniacki's second victory over Williams after having defeated the American at the Miami Masters in 2012, reports Xinhua.

The 25-year-old Danish player set a high-tempo from the start and raced to 2-0 in the first set here on Thursday. Though Williams put up some resistance to draw 2-2, a number of unprovoked errors let Wozniacki go ahead 4-2 and win the first set 6-3.

The second set was a tight affair. The 21-time Grand Slam champion took the lead 2-0, but Wozniacki fought back immediately and tied 3-3. The Scandinavian star then was clearly in better shape, winning the set 6-4.

Wozniacki, who had held the World No.1 position throughout 2011, is now ranked 17th.

Williams in October announced her withdrawal from her last two scheduled tournaments of the 2015 season to heal from a series of injuries.

Williams is expected to get back on the court during the off-season. At the Australian Open in January she will be going for her 22nd Grand Slam title.
