Substitute striker Menash D’Souza, 12, justified Don Bosco (Matunga) coach Leslie Machado’s decision to bring him on late in the match. Menash, who replaced Abhishek Ahiwale in the final 10 minutes, scored both goals in a 2-0 win against Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) in the MSSA boys’ U-14 Div-I final at Cooperage on Friday.

“This is my first year in this school. I was studying at St Xavier’s [Vile Parle] but since Don Bosco has a rich sports culture and is also good for academics, my parents decided to transfer me here. I had never played MSSA tournaments before so this win feels nice,” an elated Menash told mid-day.

Menash was in the right position to tap home after Cathedral goalkeeper Shayaan Parekh allowed the ball to slip out of his hands while trying to gather Sarvesh Balasubramanium’s long try in the 33rd minute.

Six minutes later, Menash picked up Adair D’Souza’s pass before slotting the ball home to double the lead.
