Armenian footballer Henrikh Mkhitaryan was awarded one of the highest honours of his home country by President Serzh Sargsyan recently. The Manchester United star received the ‘First-Class Medal of Services to the Motherland,’ a title usually awarded to members of Armenian armed forces after spending their time in service for the nation.
The medal is also conferred upon people who have contributed to society in a positive way. Mkhitaryan tweeted a picture (above) of himself with the medal and captioned it: "Honoured to receive a ‘1st degree Medal for Services to the Motherland' from the President of #armenia."
