Strikers Yash Bhatia, 14, and Jahaan Sheth, 14, exhibited excellent skills and combined well to score a brace each as Cathedral & John Connon (Fort) routed promoted outfit Smt RSB Arya Vidya Mandir (Juhu) 6-0 in a MSSA U-16 Div-I Group ‘C’ match at the St Francis D’Assisi High School ground, Borivli, on Tuesday.

In the seventh minute, the Arya Vidya Mandir defenders failed to clear the ball from the danger zone and Cathedral’s Ramit Sehorewala darted in and poked the ball into the goal to take the lead.

Later, Yash caught the rival defence napping as he charged in from the left to head home Ruhaan Dhaul’s corner kick from the left in the 24th minute.

In the next minute, Jahaan was fouled in the area and coolly converted the resultant penalty. Cathedral continued in the same attacking vein on resumption and in the second minute Yash got to the end of Jahaan’s long left-footed free-kick and headed into the far corner of the net. Jahaan was again in the thick of action as he trapped Ranveer Bakshi’s long aerial pass and sidestepped a defender before shooting home to widen the lead (5-0), before substitute Yuveer Advani fired home the sixth goal.

Later, in another match of the same group, St Paul’s (Dadar) beat St Mary’s SSC (Mazagaon) 3-1. Incidentally, all four goals were scored by St Paul’s players.  St Paul’s captain Ved Sawant played the lead role scoring two early goals in the first and sixth minute respectively while Manthan Walke added the third in the eighth minute.

St Paul’s defender Rudra Patil then deflected a clearance into his own net for St Mary’s lone goal. Earlier, Jamnabai Narsee (Juhu) played truant as they did not report for their Group ‘A’ match against Cambridge School (Kandivli).
