Sydney: Melbourne City's Uruguayan captain Bruno Fornaroli escaped with a reprimand yesterday after he told fans to "fuck off" during a victory speech, thinking the phrase meant something else.
The native Spanish speaker was addressing the crowd in patchy English after his team won the FFA Cup final in Melbourne on Wednesday.
After thanking the team’s owners, sponsors and fans, an emotional Fornaroli concluded by saying, "And fuck off!" as he tossed his speech notes into the crowd. He later explained his words may have been lost in translation, as he meant to say the English equivalent of "vamos", which is Spanish for "let's go".
