MSSA Inter-School Football: For you, Hanzel sir!

Aarav Maru scored a vital goal to help DY Patil International School (Worli) win the Mumbai Schools Sports Association (MSSA)-organised boys under-14 Division II inter-school football title at Azad Maidan yesterday. The Worli side beat St Francis D'Assisi High School 'B' (Borivali) 1-0 to earn promotion to Division I in style. DY Patil put their best foot forward from the beginning, using aerial shots and headers to break the opposition's defence. The Worli outfit striker and skipper Daksh Sojitra led from the front and played an important role by creating opportunities and feeding passes to his teammates.

After a goalless first half, DY Patil were awarded a penalty in the 29th minute. It came off a handball from D'Assisi's Dhruv Yogeshwar. In the next minute, mid-fielder Aarav made no mistake and scored the goal.

Goal-scorer Aarav dedicated the win to their coach Hanzel Fernandes. He said, "I dedicate this victory to our coach Hanzel sir. Scoring a goal in the final is a very satisfying feeling." Daksh remarked: "The win wouldn't have been possible without teamwork and co-ordination."

Coach impressed
Meanwhile, DY Patil coach Hanzel Fernandes said that he was impressed with the team's passion. "It is a historic victory for us. Whatever they have learnt from me, they implemented all of it on the field today. They played with pure passion," Fernandes told mid-day.

Bosco 'B' win third place tie
In the third place match, Don Bosco 'B' (Matunga) beat Udyachal High School (Vikhroli) 3-2 via tie-breaker.
