Lima: Peruvian footballer Joao Contreras was struck by lightning during a football match in his homeland but miraculously survived the impact, according to media reports.

The 21-year-old player plays for Sport Aguila. His team was playing Union Fuerza Minera in the Copa Peru. The game was hit by a storm, and Contreras was struck directly by lightning.
The Guardian also said that an assistant referee was also struck, and the match was suspended with the score 1-1. Several fans and the referee were treated for shock but are reported to be fine.
Fuerza Minera won the first leg 6-3.
